Why I Always Started Planning Next Year During Testing Season

Planning for the next school year was always a great distraction from state assessments for me. It actually gave me a boost of energy when it felt like I was running on fumes. This is that time of year.
I encourage you to start thinking about your successes this year and make sure those systems show up again next year. At the same time, reflect on the moments when things went off the rails and begin building a plan so those issues don’t repeat themselves. Something will go off the rails next year. It always does. But it doesn’t have to be the same things.
This is also the perfect time to put up the big wall calendar I talk about in Chapter 3 of my workbook. It’s the number one system for a reason.
The calendar does more than help you organize the year. It allows your staff to see your leadership.
Most of the decisions you make happen behind closed doors with your leadership team. Your staff never sees the hours you spend planning at home on the weekends. From their perspective, decisions sometimes just appear.
The wall calendar changes that.
They can see the thinking.
They can see the planning.
They can see the direction of the campus.
It removes the mystery and replaces it with visible leadership.
Don’t miss this opportunity to show your team how you lead.
Find me if you need me,
John
